Kanojo no Tomodachi

Kanojo no Tomodachi (彼女の友達, literally 'My Girlfriend's Friend') launched on Kodansha's YanMaga Web platform on May 6, 2021. Artist Jura crafted a seinen series that quickly gained traction for its mature exploration of romantic psychology and moral ambiguity. By July 2026, the collection had grown to seven tankōbon volumes under the Young Magazine KC imprint, with sales surpassing 800,000 copies in Japan.

Takeru Hidaka enters his first relationship with Kaori Koga, a cheerful girl who confesses her feelings while he focuses on medical school ambitions. Their stable dynamic fractures when Tomoko, Kaori's charismatic best friend, enters the scene. Unlike typical harem stories, this narrative avoids lighthearted comedy or pure ecchi elements. Instead, it examines the psychological weight of attraction as Tomoko deliberately tempts Takeru, exploiting his insecurities. The story dwells on the tension of emotional infidelity and the gray areas between friendship and betrayal.

Readers frequently praise the series for its realistic portrayal of internal conflicts and the painful awkwardness of forbidden attraction. The franchise reached a major milestone in May 2026 when an anime adaptation was announced. Produced by studio Quad and directed by Takashi Andō, the television series is scheduled to premiere on October 4, 2026. OceanVeil will handle the international simulcast starting that same month.
