I'm Dating a Dark Summoner

She discovers his secret during a rooftop lunch. He's been hiding the fact that he can command the dead, skeletons, ghosts, the whole necromancer package. Instead of running, she finds his awkwardness endearing. So begins I'm Dating a Dark Summoner, a romantic comedy by Shaoh that pairs a sweet high school girl with a boy whose idea of a pet is a reanimated crow. The manga launched in November 2021 under Fujimi Shobo's Dra Dra Sharp label. Seven volumes have been collected in Japan as of March 2026, with no official English release yet. A short-form anime adaptation from studio AtoriE is set for October 2026.

Shaoh, also known for the anthology Jingai no Yome to Ichaicha suru, draws with clean lines that make undead familiars look cute rather than terrifying. The humor leans on everyday situations gone wrong, a trip to the cinema interrupted by a rogue poltergeist, a café date where the boyfriend's summoned skeleton tries to order coffee. Beneath the chaos, the story explores acceptance across worlds: she normalizes his dark magic, he learns to trust someone outside his coven of bones. Ecchi elements appear but stay secondary to the relationship's warmth.

Japanese readers on BookLive praise the wholesome core, though some note early volumes rely too much on episodic gags before the supernatural plot tightens. English scanlation fans compare it favorably to The Devil is a Part-Timer! for its low-stakes high concept. No major awards have come its way yet. The series hasn't spun off into light novels or side stories. Its modest but loyal following, plus the upcoming anime, suggest this dark romance is just getting started. [modifier]
