Hiromu Arakawa launched Yomi no Tsugai in December 2021, marking a return to dark fantasy after years of producing slice-of-life stories like Silver Spoon. The narrative follows twin siblings Yuru and Asa, who were separated at a young age due to their connection to supernatural entities from the underworld. Yuru resides in a secluded mountain village working as a hunter, while his sister remains imprisoned underground to maintain the balance between life and death. The story shifts when dragons invade the world and hunters attack Yuru's home, prompting him to awaken two Divine Guardians named Right and Left.

This awakening forges a contract that grants Yuru immense power and sets both twins on a collision course with their prophesied destiny. They are destined to sunder day and night and rule over the Daemons, a realization that forces them to question whether they can forge their own paths or must fulfill a predetermined fate. The series explores themes of sibling bonds, isolation, and the heavy burden of controlling overwhelming magical forces within a meticulously constructed mythology.

The manga continues serialization in Square Enix's Monthly Shōnen Gangan, reaching thirteen compiled volumes by 2025. Square Enix Manga & Books handles the English release, with the first volume arriving on April 25, 2023.
