Steve Kerr on Yaxel Lendeborg readiness
par Yetundejones: Steve Kerr
Honestly, calling Yaxel Lendeborg the next face of the franchise feels like too much pressure for a guy who hasn't even stepped on a court yet. That's exactly what Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said when responding to Draymond Green's comments, noting that labeling him that way is excessive before he's played a single game. Instead of focusing on that hype, Kerr made it clear he knows Axel is ready to play, contribute, and become one of the team's best players right out of the gate. He highlighted how well Lendeborg handles attention without fearing the spotlight or struggling to bring people together in the room. Kerr described him as a great young man who is coachable, wants to win, and has already proven himself at a high level during his time at Michigan. While acknowledging that growing pains are coming, the coach stressed that the Warriors need to support him through that transition.

For someone like Axel to kind of get that attention and take it in and not be scared of the spotlight and really just kind of be able to bring people together. Yeah, I think that's a lot to put on a young guy who hasn't played a game yet. So that's the last thing I'm thinking about. But I know that he's ready to play and contribute and be one of our best players. It's obvious. And I know he's a great young guy, like really coachable, wants to win, has already won at a really high level at Michigan, so he knows what it takes and what winning means. And so he's done everything right, but he's got a lot of growing pains ahead and we've got to help him work through that.
