What made you believe that you could do it and what advice would you have for upcoming filmmakers of color as well? Wow. Wow. Because that's kind of the biggest challenge isn't it? How do you allow yourself to give yourself the permission that you can write something that's bold and then actually go execute it? And when I had the final fight scene I didn't know how to necessarily design it because I didn't know what our budget would be. So literally in the script it's asterisks and then it says cue epic fight scene or insert epic fight scene. And it was because I didn't know how I'd do it. I knew that I would bring the right people along the way and I'd find the right people along the way that would help me get there. I would say that having a great producer goes a long way and Luuk Nto, who's Chinese, Malaysian and Irish, is an incredible partner for me that really believed in me and pushed me to go further. And I think then having Mahershala come on board, he also then encouraged me to push it. And I think to have collaborators that have constantly challenged me has been really one of my gifts.
