Nigeria UN Human Development Index rank
Nigeria ranks 164th of 193 countries on the UN Human Development Index. That's the same country some African Americans describe as the global trendsetter others turn to for advice, and it's worth asking whether that holds up. The numbers aren't subtle. In 2023 a dollar got you around 463 naira. By 2025 the exchange rate was moving between 1,450 and 1,650 naira per dollar. In two years the national currency shed roughly two-thirds of its value. Then there's daily life. About 50.8% of the population is in extreme poverty. Average life expectancy is 54.5 years. Around 8.9 million school-age children, 26% of that group, aren't in primary school at all. So when the pitch is that everyone should be learning from Nigeria, the stats make that a hard sell. Not impossible to admire things about a place, but calling it the model while those figures sit there is a stretch.

Honestly, the world is just catching on. Nigeria is not just known for being the giant of Africa for nothing. Everything, Nigeria is the bedrock of everything. It starts and begins and ends with Nigeria. So whatever is thriving in Nigeria is thriving across West Africa and Africa as a whole. So to be honest, we've always been loud, we've always been proud, we've always been very, very vivacious people. And the world is literally just now catching on. So come on then. Absolutely. Catch on. Well, that's awesome because now it sounds like you guys set the pace for every other country there. They look to Nigeria to know what is going on. I love it. What's so crazy, too, is even thinking about, you know, as you said, Raquel, how Nigeria sets the tone for the other parts of, you know, Nigeria or Africa. Yeah, but also Nigeria is setting the tone for the world in so many different ways because I know recently, I want to say stumbled, but I believe it was God that I fell upon, Pastor Icy. Do you know who that is? You're probably pronouncing it wrong. Ecy. Ecy. Yeah, her last respect with the I. But anyways, the way that she preaches and speaks in tongues and the power that she is invoking and that Nigerian pastors are invoking all across the world is doing something right now.
