January 2021 turning point interview

    par Kelsey7f: Donald Trump

January 2021 is when it clicked for a lot of people: oh, we're screwed. The reason isn't complicated. If someone's convinced the election got stolen, no argument reaches them, and that belief hands them unlimited justification. I don't see a road back from that. Once a coup happens, whose side anyone is on stops being knowable, and so does what's actually true. That's what the Capitol storming felt like to me, the point where nobody could agree on reality anymore. Trust either gets rebuilt or it doesn't, and I'm not betting on rebuilt. We're living inside a giant meme now, absurd on its face, and the proof is that the guy from The Apprentice ended up as president.

January 2021 was that moment for me where I was like, oh, snap, we're screwed. Why is that? Because it doesn't matter anymore. Because some people are going to believe what they believe no matter what. And if they believe that the election was stolen, then it's over, bro. Yeah, they have unlimited justification. Yeah, yeah. I don't feel like you ever go back. Like, I don't think you can ever actually fix it anymore. I think once you have a coup, then like it's done. Like you don't know anymore whose side is what or what's real and what's not. So 2021 felt like a lot like that to me when they stormed the Capitol and all this stuff. I'm like, bro, like we're like at that point now. We don't actually know anymore what's going on. The world is just a giant meme at this point. It's absolutely absurd. Like the fact that the guy who ran the TV show, The Apprentice, is the president.
