The sequence of events surrounding the GTA 6 leaks started on August 18th when a leaker released a brief video of Jason playing basketball. At first many people in the community thought this was just a UE5 fake but hours later the same person shared another clip along with the full GTA 6 map. Questions immediately arose about whether the footage came from 2023 or 2025 while Take Two began removing related content across the internet. By August 19th speculation grew that the leaker had exhausted their supply and was only posting for attention yet two new clips appeared including one with radio music released in January 2025 and a separate scene showing an in-game cutscene. On August 20th the leaker launched a paid poll asking fans which clip to release next which led to doubts that few videos remained and that the poster might not even play the game themselves. Later that day a video featuring a plane surfaced where the individual wrote his name on a wall using a firearm.
