    Burning Days Emin Alper

What stays with me about Burning Days (Kurak Günler) is how the silence does more work than any confession. Emin Alper's 2022 Turkish film lands among the strongest from the country in recent years, and it sits proudly in the LGBTQ+ lane too 🏳️‍🌈. A young prosecutor shows up in an Anatolian town already withering under drought, and the place slowly pulls him into corruption, local power fights, and something dangerously close with a journalist. Stylish and tense, yes, but quietly devastating is the part that lingers. If you go in expecting a standard queer romance you'll get something else entirely: a moral thriller circling machismo, repression, and what staying quiet costs. Cannes gave it a slot in Un Certain Regard, and the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival handed it multiple awards, Best Director among them for Alper 🍿
