Vanessa Dekeyzer Regional Journalist 12 h 11 ⏺️At the beginning of September, Mr. Luwara was assaulted with a hammer by three masked men. The incident took place on the Grand-Place at a time when the city center was still very lively. The man was taken into care by emergency services and transported to the hospital with a serious head injury. ⏺️The Congolese journalist Claude Pero Luwara was assaulted again in Tienen. "Shortly after the incident, investigators were able to identify and arrest two suspects, two men aged 25 from Saint-Gilles and Steenokkerzeel," states the Louvain prosecutor's office. "The suspects were placed in pretrial detention by the investigating judge. The council chamber extended their pretrial detention by at least one month." ⏺️The continuation of the investigation also made it possible to identify the other suspects, and last Monday, the police conducted searches at four addresses in Zaventem, where three suspects, all in their twenties, were arrested. These three suspects were also placed in pretrial detention by the investigating judge. They will appear today behind closed doors. ⏺️This is not the first assault Notable fact: the Tienen incident was already the third assault against Luwara in Belgium in just over a year. He had already been assaulted in August 2025 in Tienen and in April 2026 in Louvain-la-Neuve. ⏺️The Congolese journalist has long resided in Belgium as a political refugee and is known for being a fierce critic of the Congolese president and his regime. It is for this reason that Luwara would have been targeted. A bounty of no less than 4 million euros would have been put on the dissident's head. Source
