Greta Gerwig Narnia casting Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep is the voice behind Aslan in Greta Gerwig's NARNIA: THE MAGICIAN'S NEPHEW, a choice driven by a very specific set of requirements. The role demanded an actor older than 70 who could balance experienced wisdom with a capacity for fresh wonder, exactly like a child. Speaking to Empire Magazine, Gerwig noted that finding someone who also ranks as one of the greatest actors ever to do it meant the list was not a long one at all. She identified Streep as fitting that rare combination perfectly.
