Apis mellifera pollen basket

That bright orange sac on the hind leg of Apis mellifera is called a corbicula, or pollen basket, and it's where this western honey bee stashes what it collects from flowers. Before the trip home, the pollen gets a little moisture worked into it and squeezed into a single pellet. Once it reaches the colony, that pellet is an important food source. Hardworking is putting it lightly.
