Invidious is an open-source YouTube front-end that strips out ads, tracking, and the need to log in. It gives you background playback on mobile, subscription support without a Google account, and even lets you import your existing subs. You can self-host it or hop between public instances. The project is AGPL-3.0 licensed, has 361 volunteers, and shipped a release in February 2026. It's free, which makes it a solid alternative to paying for YouTube Premium.
