India has tracked its wild tiger population closely over the years. The figures show roughly 3600 in 2000, then around 3200 in 2001, 2800 in 2002, 2400 in 2003, 2000 in 2004, 1600 in 2005, 1411 in 2006, about 1480 in 2007, 1550 in 2008, 1630 in 2009, 1706 in 2010, 1830 in 2011 and nearly 1,960 in 2012.
